OFFICE 365 EDUCATION IMPACT TO ENGLISH LOW ACHIEVERS : LITERACY AND 21ST CENTURY SKILLS IN ELT

One of the most enduring problems in teaching English at primary school is what to do about the low achievers especially in ‘kampong’ schools or schools in rural areas. Internet connectivity, minimum devices and software are vital issues faced. Integrating technology in classroom teaching is a huge transformation among the pupils. The 21st century learning (PAK 21) approach is to ensure that pupils are equipped with the right skills and values for the future. Hence, Microsoft Office 365 for Education application was adopted to increase pupils’ interest in learning English. This action research was carried out to identify whether it was a useful Digital Learning Tools in improving the English low achievers, especially for enhancing reading and writing. A class consists of 29 low achievers pupils were selected to take part in this research. Based on the early data from January 2019 pre-test, observations and checklists, 29 out of 29 pupils were unable to acquire basic minimum skills and knowledge. It shows that pupils were affected with ineffective methods and weaknesses in skills.3 months after using apps in The Office 365 Software, the results increased surprisingly .A few data collection instruments been made and results indicate overall that it appears to be one of the useful, engaging and best possible digital education tools for the struggling low achievers especially in improving reading comprehension and writing. The study will be carried out continuously until the Final Exam in November 2019 to make final conclusion based on the results.
