FRONT OFFICE ENGLISH TRAINING FOR ASEAN STANDARDS FOR TOURISM PROFESSIONALS : ELT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

This session exhibits the speakers’ experiences in conducting an English training under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ sponsorship. It contains three 30-hour English programs namely Operational Level for Front Office Staff, Supervisory Level for Supervisors, and Advanced Level for Front Office Managers. The speakers will explain format of competency-based lessons and nature of the pre and post-assessments. In addition, they will showcase how the language activities and real job-related communication tasks can be translated into the trainees’ professionals and language proficiencies. They will also share challenges encountered in employing competency-based ESP lessons into the training and lesson-learned from them.

Natakorn Satienchayakorn is Deputy Director for Academic Services and Testing Assistant at Rangsit English Language Institute (RELI). He received a National Assessor certificate under ASEAN MRA on TP. He developed MRA on TP courses and conducted the training. His research interests include ESP, Corpus Linguistics, and Discourse Analysis.

Supachai Saeeaw completed her Master’s Degree in TEFL from the Language Institute of Thammasat University. She also served as a course developer and trainer for English Communication for Front Office: Operational Level. Her research interest is English pronunciation teaching, genre analysis, and language assessments.

Supachanin D. Sathianpan is an English lecturer at Rangsit English Language Institute (RELI). She was a trainer for English Communication for Front Office: Supervisory Level under ASEAN MRA on TP. Her research interests include 21st Century English skills and Lifelong Learning.

Weerapa Pongpanich is an English lecturer at Rangsit English Language Institute at Rangsit University where she received her Master’s Degree in English for Professions. She is also a course developer and a trainer for English Communication for Front Office: Operational Level. She is interested in EFL, ESL, and case studies.
