ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENT VOCABULARY LEARNING : LANGUAGE LEARNING

With the limited amount of time in many teaching contexts, it is many times difficult to introduce and sustain multiple skills needed for language learning. Often times vocabulary learning is left to be learned incidentally, however research has shown that this is not always the best approach. However, given the time and resource constraints of educational institutions, it is difficult to teach vocabulary explicitly. This workshop will introduce ways to have students learn and maintain new vocabulary, as autonomous learners, based on sound research, as well as share activities that can be used within the time constraints of an EFL context.

Arthur Nguyen is currently a Principal Lecturer at Kanda University of International Studies in Japan. He has been teaching in an EFL University context for 8 years.
