This research involves in implementing CLT at University of Economics – Technology for Industries, Vietnam to engage unsuccessful or less successful learners in speaking activities. This has been done by quantitative and qualitative research method. Two hundred and forty 2nd years students at UNETI, Vietnam selected for the study. Firstly, the oral competence of participants is evaluated through a pre-test. Then, a group is taught by traditional method and the other is taught by CLT by only one good teacher. The post-test evaluates the English communicative competence of learners in four classes. Observation, test, questionnaire and interview are used to get information about the effective and the limitation of using CLT in engaging less successful or unsuccessful learners in speaking activities. Finding revealed that CLT is a suitable teaching method to engage reluctant learners of UNETI in speaking English. In addition, it helps teachers find the problems of students in speaking skill and find out the best way to solve these problems in order to improve the students’ speaking skill.
