PERSONALIZED FEEDBACK CAN GUIDE AND INFLUENCE LEARNING AND TEACHING : LANGUAGE TESTING AND ASSESSMENT
Assessment can better support teaching and learning if rich feedback is provided to test takers and teachers. In this workshop, participants will explore how large-scale exams can serve not only summative but also formative assessment purposes. Participants will first reflect on how the exams they use serve formative and/or summative purposes and will come up with suggestions for effective assessments that have a high formative impact. Next, presenters will report on the development of tasks and scoring approaches for a large-scale four-skill test of English as a foreign language designed to measure the progress of secondary school-age learners and to allow for the provision of individualized feedback to learners through a unique score report. Last, the audience will discuss how learners (and their teachers and parents) can make the best use of detailed feedback from large-scale exams to support further learning, personalize teaching, and enhance the positive impact of exams.
