HOW TO USE VIDEO BLOGGING AS AN L2 SPEAKING, LISTENING, AND WRITING ACTIVITY : COMPUTER-MEDIATED COMMUNICATION IN ELT
With the ever-increasing importance of online interaction and presence, smartphone technology and social networking platforms are media that students around the world find engaging. As educators, we can incorporate this media into our practice to make our lessons more relevant. In this workshop, I will share a student video blogging activity that several lecturers and I use at Tokyo International University. Video blogs create a speaking task where students have the power to self-correct and redo their own production until they feel confident enough to publish their creations. A description of skill areas practiced through this activity will be explained using examples from my own classes. I will also demonstrate how this activity can be facilitated using free software such as Schoology. The aim for this workshop is for attendees to leave feeling competent and informed enough to be able to use this innovative activity in their own classrooms.
