THE EFFECT OF DYNAMIC ASSESSMENT ON PROMOTING IRANIAN EFL LEARNERS€™ INTENSIVE READING COMPREHENSION: AN INTERVENTIONIST PROCEDURE : LANGUAGE TESTING AND ASSESSMENT

Dynamic Assessment challenges conventional views on teaching and assessment by arguing that these should not be seen as separate activities but should instead be fully integrated. This integration occurs as intervention is embedded within the assessment procedure in order to interpret individuals’ abilities and lead them to higher levels of functioning (Poehner, 2008). This study was aimed at exploring the feasibility of development and implementation of interventionist dynamic assessment procedure in the area of EFL intensive reading comprehension. In particular, the effectiveness of dynamic assessment compared with static assessment of reading abilities of Iranian EFL learners was investigated. The results indicate that dynamic assessment oriented instruction through interventionist procedure significantly improved the L2 intensive reading comprehension. The instructional value of dynamic assessment lies in the fact that its results can be used for the development of individual learning plans for students with different learning needs. The results may be of benefit for both theoreticians and practitioners.
