STRATEGIES FOR USING COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES WITH LARGE CLASSES : CURRICULUM AND MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT

Many teachers are keen to implement communicative teaching methodologies in their classrooms, but are faced with the challenges of a having a very large class. The extra demands of large numbers can sometimes lead teachers to avoid tasks which are seen as unmanageable; meaning students can lose out on communicative opportunities. This workshop will focus on the specific challenges of large classes and examine the ways in which activities and management can be adapted to make them workable, whilst still retaining their communicative and interactive elements. Participants will: • gain practical classroom management strategies for teaching large groups • increase their confidence in completing communicative tasks with large classes • gain practical activities they can take away and try out
