WARM-UP ACTIVITIES: FOSTERING A COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE CLASSROOM : TEACHING METHODOLOGY

We often hear teachers say that their students are so shy and they never speak English in class. How can we encourage them to speak? By implementing warm-up activities as a regular routine in our classes, we have found that our students have become more open and willing to speak in English. In this hands-on workshop, there is a discussion about reasons for using warmers. In addition, participants get to experience different communicative warm-up activities. This leads to reflecting on how these warmers could help promote students’ speaking, and possible adaptations. Finally, participants share their own favorites. In the end, participants will leave with a list of different warmers that they can implement on Monday in their own classes.
